President Abdel Fattah El Sisi telephoned his Iraqi counterpart and discussed a number of issues of common concern, according to Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Bassam Rady.
Rady said that President Sisi congratulated Iraqi President Barham Salih on assigning Mustafa al-Kadhimi to form a government, wishing for him success in his mission.
“President Sisi stressed Egypt's steadfast support for the security and stability of brotherly Iraq, and the importance of the Arab role in Iraq,” Rady added.
Sisi looked forward to joint cooperation to achieve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
On his part, the Iraqi president praised the close and historical fraternal ties that link Egypt and Iraq, stressing Iraq’s mutual keenness to push forward the frameworks of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
He also expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts in support of the Iraqi issue at all levels, as well as the vital Egyptian role in strengthening the mechanisms of joint Arab action in the face of the ongoing crises and challenges in the region.
The two leaders exchanged many views on a number of Arab and regional issues of common concern, as well as Egyptian-Iraqi efforts to strengthen the frameworks of trilateral cooperation with Jordan, as well as a review of measures taken at the national level in the two countries to confront the repercussions of the novel coronavirus.
“President Sisi discussed with his Iraqi counterpart the possibility of exchanging experiences and information available in this framework between the health care services of the two sister countries,” Rady noted.
In last October, President Sisi and President Salih discussed developments of Turkish Offensive in Syria on phone.
“President Sisi received a phone call from his Iraqi counterpart…The two leaders tackled recent developments in the region in the awake of latest situation in Syrian territory,” said Rady.
Both leaders shared opinions and exchanged consultations over the Turkish incursion into Syrian territory and sovereignty, according to Rady, adding that “Sisi and Salih stressed the ongoing escalation threatens international peace and security and worsens the complicated situation in the region.”
