On the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Victory Day in World War II, known in Russia as the “Great Patriotic War” (1941–1945), the “Immortal Regiment” march was held this morning, May 9, at the Russian House in Cairo. The event brought together dozens of members of the Russian community in Egypt, alongside Egyptian citizens and representatives of several friendly countries, in a tribute reflecting gratitude and respect for the heroes of victory.

The march was organized in cooperation with the Coordinating Council of the Russian Community in Egypt. Participants carried portraits of their relatives who fought on the frontlines, worked in the rear, or defended their homeland during the war. Their sacrifices remain deeply engraved in the memory of the Great Patriotic War, while participation in the march has become an annual tradition for many families seeking to preserve the legacy of their ancestors.

Vadim Zaychikov, Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, stressed the importance of preserving historical truth and educating younger generations about the history of their homeland and the heroism of their forefathers. He noted that the “Immortal Regiment” serves as a living bridge between generations, uniting people of different ages and nationalities in shared gratitude and respect for the heroes of victory.

The “Immortal Regiment” is an international grassroots movement dedicated to preserving the personal stories of those who participated in the Great Patriotic War. Every year, millions of people around the world join marches carrying portraits of their relatives from the generation of victors, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding historical memory and honoring the sacrifices of heroes.
