The Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) began the restoration process of Tombs of the Nobles and Qubbet el-Hawain in Aswan to be open for visits during the coming period.
Mostafa Waziry, Secretary-General of the SCA, noted that this step came within the Tourism Ministry’s plan to restore and develop archaeological sites in various parts of the country, especially Upper Egypt.
In addition, Waziry pointed out that areas of Tombs of the Nobles and Qubbet el-Hawain were chosen due to their great historical and archaeological importance, adding that the inscriptions that these tombs have are very precise and beautiful.
On his part, Mohamed Abdel-Badie, head of the Central Administration for the Antiquities of Upper Egypt, stated that the restoration work included paving the roads that lead to the tombs and developing the internal and external lighting system.
Meanwhile, Abdel-Badie indicated that works in Qubbet el-Hawain will include the restoration of two tombs from the New Kingdom era from the northern cemeteries in the region, namely the tombs of Wisr, the ruler of Elephantine, and Amenhotep, seal-bearer of Upper Egypt.
