The third annual of Pyramids Half Marathon kicked off this morning at the Great Pyramids of Giza under the auspices of both Ministries of Tourism and Youth & Sports.
Director General of the Giza Pyramids Archaeological Area Ashraf Mohieldin affirmed that the marathon is one of the most important races in the world as it has the largest number of participants this year concerning sports tourism events.
Mohieldin also highlighted the successful factors of this marathon which includes a distinctive environment, governmental support, and first-class organization.
In addition, he emphasized that holding such sporting events and races in the pyramids area is the best promotion for the Egyptian tourist destinations as it displays the persity of tourist patterns, cultural, sports, and beach.
Around 4000 local and international competitors from 80 different countries around the world participated in the race; they included 1,300 foreigners from 71 countries, and 2,700 Egyptians.
The race consists of three segments; running over the 21K, the 10K, and 5K distances.
