2 Ministries Launch "Winter in Egypt" Initiative to Support Internal Tourism

The Ministerial Committee for Tourism and Antiquities convened last December under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly.

The committee offered a number of recommendations so several coordination meetings were held between Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and his counterpart of Civil Aviation Pilot Mohamed Manar to set up mechanisms to stimulate the domestic tourism.

The two ministers discussed the activation of the initiative of "Winter in Egypt".

The meetings were attended by Pilot Montaser Manna, Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation, President of the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers, heads of each of the Hotel Establishments Chamber, representatives of the Chamber of Companies and Travel and Tourism Agencies, and a number of senior officials of the two ministries.

They confirmed that the initiative of " Winter in Egypt" aims to reduce domestic flight expenses to connect tourist cities with Egypt by organizing trips from Cairo to Luxor, Aswan, Sharm El Sheikh, Taba, Hurghada and Marsa Alam on the western coast of the Red Sea. Those flights include also ones take off from Alexandria to Luxor and Aswan.

The initiative covers the period from January 15 to the end of February 2021.They decided that the prices of tickets for Egyptians and foreigners would be tax-inclusive during the period of the initiative at a flat rate, as follows:

From Cairo and Alexandria to Luxor for EGP 1500, to Aswan for EGP 1800, from Cairo or Alexandria to Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Taba for 1800 EGP and to Marsa Alam EGP 2000.

Within the framework of the initiative, the Hotel Establishments Chamber will announce the names and prices of accommodation in the hotels participating in the initiative, in categories of three, four and five stars. The hotels will apply encouraging rates for accommodation, including tax and services, throughout the period of the initiative, with a commitment of 50% of the capacity.

The initiative came in accordance with the established operating controls, and the need to adhere to all precautionary measures and health safety controls in all airports, museums, archaeological sites, restaurants, cafeterias, hotels and tourist buses.

It is worth noting that in support of the "Winter in Egypt" initiative to encourage domestic tourism, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, in its last session, days ago, decided to grant a 50% discount on the prices of tickets for Egyptians in the archaeological areas and museums open to visit in the governorates of Qena, Luxor and Aswan, during the months of January and February. 2021.
