Under the auspices of the Zahi Hawass Foundation for Antiquities and Heritage, and in cooperation with the Museums Sector, the second season of the specialized training program "Pioneers of Civilization" commenced at the Prince Taz Palace Creativity Center in El-Khalifa. This season features wide participation from university professors, archaeological experts, and Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities leaders, aiming to qualify students and graduates in archaeology, tourism guidance, history, restoration, and museum studies.
Mr. Ali Abu Deshish, Director of the Zahi Hawass Foundation, emphasized that this program builds young cadres armed with academic knowledge and field experience. By combining theoretical lectures with field visits, the initiative ensures the preparation of a qualified generation capable of safeguarding and promoting Egypt’s heritage globally.
The first day featured three specialized lectures, starting with Dr. Khaled Saad, Director General of Prehistoric Antiquities, who discussed the history of legal legislation for heritage protection and addressing loopholes to prevent smuggling.
The second lecture, by Cairo University professor Dr. Nasser Mekawy, compared ancient Babylonian and Egyptian laws, examining the Code of Hammurabi, King Horemheb’s anti-corruption laws, the "Harem Conspiracy" of King Ramesses III, Herodotus' accounts, and the role of magic in ancient thought.
The day concluded with former Antiquities Investigation Director Major General Abdel Hafez Abdel Karim, who detailed the history of antiquities smuggling and the pre-regulation era, emphasizing that official documentation of artifacts is the ultimate legal defense for Egypt’s identity.
