Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts board of trustees approved the nomination of iconic artist George Bahgoury as the winner of the foundation's 2022 Grand Merit Award with a value of EGP 100,000, the foundation announced on Tuesday.
Secretary-General of the Grand Merit Award and a member of the foundation's Board of Trustees Mohamed Salmawy stated that the Grand Merit Award is different from the other listed prizes as it is granted to an influential figure in the national scene of arts and culture in general, not only fine arts.
Salmawy explained that the prize is a lifetime achievement tribute, so it is not dedicated to the young artists as the rest of the awards, but it is for the veteran icons who really created a significant mark in the Egyptian culture.
The renowned author revealed that Bahgoury succeeded in producing thousands of flawless and distinctive paintings that portray the real Egyptian life and symbolize its major definitive features.
In addition, Bahgoury is well appreciated and praised globally as well as locally as he lived several years overseas, especially in France.
The legendary artist will be honoured in the 3rd art awards ceremony next Monday, March 7, at El-Gezira Arts Center in Zamalek, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
