With the latest entry of the Evil Dead franchise hitting theaters next month, Robert Tapert recently teased what’s laies for the franchise’s future.
The franchise producer revealed that the upcoming Francis Galluppi-helmed installment, "Evil Dead Wrath," opens on April 7, 2028, is a prequel set before the events of the original 1981 horror film.
“This is yet another great departure,” he told Dread Central of the next installment in Sam Raimi’s franchise. “It predates everything. It takes place in 1972.”
Following Raimi’s original trilogy, which included "The Evil Dead" (1981), "Evil Dead II" (1987) and "Army of Darkness" (1993), the franchise was rebooted with Fede Álvarez’s "Evil Dead" in 2013.
With Lee Cronin’s "Evil Dead Rise" (2023) steering the movies in a new darker direction, to the tune of $147M globally, the horror is set to continue with Sébastien Vaniček’s "Evil Dead Burn," premiering July 10 in US theaters.
Tapert said of Evil Dead Burn‘s synopsis, “It’s the story of a French woman in a bad marriage in America, and… what we will discover along the ride – was probably an abusive husband, whose family did not believe her – and so they were basically the in-laws from hell.”
