Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif praised the "indispensable" role Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, acknowledging their "valuable" contributions to reaching an agreement between Iran and the United States, and announcing that the "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)" has entered into force immediately.
In a post on the "X" platform, Sharif stated that the "historic" Islamabad MoU was signed electronically by the presidents of both the United States and Iran, confirming that he supported and ratified the agreement in his capacity as a mediator in the negotiations.
He added that the signing of the memorandum at the highest political level in both countries reflects the commitment of both sides to diplomatic solutions for resolving the conflict.
Moreover, he explained that the agreement has taken effect immediately, and its initial steps include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the naval blockade.
In addition, Pakistani PM expressed his appreciation to US President Donald Trump for what he described as "adhering to the diplomatic path and prioritizing a peaceful solution."
He also praised the efforts of the US negotiation team members, including JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.
Furthermore, Sharif expressed his appreciation to the Iranian leadership, praising what he described as their "wisdom and political foresight" in supporting peace efforts. He commended the role of the Iranian negotiation team, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi, and Eskandar Momeni.
He gave special recognition to Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, noting that his efforts and active role were crucial factors in facilitating the agreement and supporting regional peace and stability.
Sharif concluded his statements by expressing hope that the Memorandum of Understanding would serve as a permanent foundation for enhancing mutual understanding and establishing stability and prosperity in the region.
