The Russian House in Cairo celebrated the 58th anniversary of the transformation of the Nile Hungarian, with the participation of the High Dam Builders Association, headed by Eng. Sabri El-Ashmawy.
Secretary-General of the Egyptian Association of the Soviet and Russian Universities Graduates Fathi Togan and Eng. Abdel-Hakim Abdel-Nasser, son of late president Gamal Abdel-Nasser, attended the ceremony.
El-Ashmawy stated that the construction of the High Dam was a national epic written by the Egyptian people, noting that the Russian side had a major role in achieving this dream, starting with providing the necessary funding and providing Soviet experts for technical support.
Moreover, he stressed that the High Dam is the greatest embodiment of Egyptian-Russian relations.
On his part, Marat Gatin, director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, welcomed the attendees and the members of the High Dam Builders Association, who helped in achieving this significant symbol of the Egyptian-Russian relations.
In like manner, Sherif Gad, President of the Egyptian Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities, indicated that statements of all attendees remind him of what he called "the spirit of the dam".
Gad also called on the Egyptian government, and media to shed light on this epic, hoping for the return of this spirit within the El Dabaa project, which is currently being carried out in cooperation with Russia.
Furthermore, Togan congratulated all the heroes who contributed to the construction of the High Dam, pointing out that he was one of the lucky ones who witnessed the preparations that were being made for its construction and the transformation of the Nile Hungarian during school trips to Aswan.
