Zayn Malik has announced a fifth studio album “Konnakol,” releasing on April 17 via Mercury Records.

The British singer, who recently finished his Las Vegas residency, will release the project’s first single “Die for Me” this Friday.

According to a release, “Konnakol” “expands on the sound fans first heard on his record breaking debut studio album ‘Mind of Mine.'”

Malik shared the news alongside a photo of the album’s cover art, featuring a snow leopard, a symbol in South Asia that’s meant to convey how his heritage inspired the project.

The former One Direction singer has been teasing the project for some time, featuring snow leopard imagery at the end of each Vegas show.

“It’s that time again, I have been lucky enough to make a fifth studio album,” said Malik in a statement. “Konnakol in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music, this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.”

The singer recently completed his seven-night residency at Vegas’ Dolby Live at Park MGM in late January.

During the show, Malik teased unreleased music and played fan favorites across the shows, which wrapped on January 31.
