Dr. Zahi Hawass, well-known Egyptologist and former Minister of Antiquities, said he started implementing a program called “Site Management,” when he was a Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Hawass believed that this period was the "golden age of Egyptian antiquities", as Farouk Hosni was in charge of the Ministry of Culture.

“Although he was not an archaeologist, he was a lover of antiquities,” he said, citing Hosni’s love for antiques. “He stood by our side in order to implement the most important projects to preserve archaeological sites.”

“Therefore, I began studying this new program and traveled to participate in a conference organized by the Getty Research Institute,” he added.

The Egyptologist revealed that one of the most significant discoveries was the site where they found a huge obelisk, dates back to the era of Queen Hatshepsut.

It is believed that a mistake happened during its cutting, so it was left in its place.

Tourists used to come and see this obelisk, which was called the "Unfinished Obelisk", and walk over it to take pictures.

“We have started a very important project to develop the obelisk, in which Dr. Eng. Tariq Wali and archaeologist Adel Al-Kilani participated with us,” the Egyptologist added. “This project took about 6 years, as we removed more than 50 thousand cubic meters of stone and sand.”

Moreover; they also found a text from the era of King Thutmose III, indicating that he had issued orders to his directo to cut an obelisk to be erected inside the temple of his father, Amun-Ra, inside the temple of Karnak.
