In a grand ceremony held in the Italian city of Acqui Terme, renowned Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass was awarded the prestigious Premio Acqui Storia Award. Hawass was recognized as one of the world’s most influential figures through his appearances on television. An international committee selected him, highlighting the impact of the documentary films featuring Hawass in fostering a love for archaeology among audiences worldwide.
The event was hosted by prominent television presenter Roberto Giacobbo, known for his weekly show on Italian television. The hall was packed with around 2,000 attendees. During the ceremony, Giacobbo announced the Premio Acqui Storia Award, which is regarded as Italy’s most significant cultural accolade. The award, now in its 57th year, was originally established to honor the memory of Italy's World War II martyrs.
The President of Italy sent a message of congratulations to the honorees.
The grand celebration in Acqui Terme drew thousands of visitors from various Italian cities. The award recognized 10 individuals from countries including the USA and Italy, among them children’s authors, journalists, artists, and writers. One of the recipients was the famous football coach Fabio Capello, who has led teams such as Real Madrid, England, and Russia.
Hawass received his award from the mayor and governor of the city. The ceremony lasted for three hours.
As part of the event, Dr. Hawass delivered a lecture to an audience of 1,000 students aged between 15 and 20, discussing topics such as the Valley of the Golden Mummies, the Lost Golden City, and his quest to uncover the secrets of Cleopatra.
