Renowned Egyptian filmmaker Yousry Nasrallah has paid tribute to Iraqi oud musician Yousif Abbas, describing him as one of the finest oud players he has ever encountered.

In a widely shared statement celebrating Abbas’s artistry, Nasrallah portrayed the musician as more than a performer, praising his ability to transform the oud into a living expression of memory, heritage, and emotion.

The acclaimed director said Abbas’s music carries the spirit of ancient Babylonian culture while delivering a modern artistic language capable of reaching audiences far beyond the Arab world.

For Nasrallah, whose films are known for their emotional depth and strong musical identity, Abbas’s performances represent a rare fusion of technical precision and profound feeling.

He also highlighted the musician’s journey from Iraq to Cairo, where Abbas further developed his craft at the Arab Oud House.

According to Nasrallah, this combination of discipline and emotional authenticity helped Abbas establish himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary Arabic music.

The director further noted that Abbas restores the oud’s role not only as a historic instrument rooted in Middle Eastern heritage, but also as a modern artistic force capable of shaping the future of regional music.

Nasrallah ultimately described Yousif Abbas as an artist whose music reflects both cultural identity and artistic elegance, reviving the spirit of the golden age of Arabic musicianship through every performance.
