Yehya Khalil to Perform at Cairo Opera House on Jan. 18

Renowned jazz player Yehya Khalil will perform at the Cairo Opera House on Thursday, January 18.

The performance will take place at the small hall at 08:00 PM (Cairo local time).

Khalil, 79, expected to perform a selection of his popular songs, including "Crichendo", "Hakawey El-Ahawy", and "Donia".

He will also play some covers of Western musicians and repertoires of Mohamed Abdewahab, and Baligh Hamdi.

Born in Cairo, in 1943, he is regarded as one of the pioneers of the jazz movement in Egypt.

Known as "King of Jazz", Khalil received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Opera and has played with many well-known international musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, Ginger Baker, Jeff Bush, and Eric Clapton, before returning to Egypt.

In 2018, Khalil received the Opera House-bestowed Lifetime Achievement Award for his "outstanding contribution to enriching musical life in Egypt."
