Jazz Egyptian legend Yahia Khalil will celebrate his 80th birthday with a concert to be held at the Small Hall of Cairo Opera House on Friday (Dec. 15).
The veteran musician will be performing his popular pieces and international covers at the grand celebration amidst his fans.
Born in Cairo, in 1943, he is regarded as one of the pioneers of the jazz movement in Egypt.
Known as "King of Jazz", Khalil received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Opera and has played with many well-known international musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, Ginger Baker, Jeff Bush, and Eric Clapton, before returning to Egypt.
In 2018, Khalil received the Opera House-bestowed Lifetime Achievement Award for his "outstanding contribution to enriching musical life in Egypt."
