This enchanting diamond is the Wittelsbach Blue. It weighed 35.56 carat and was graded Fancy Deep grayish blue with VS2 clarity by GIA.
The diamond was recut to improve its color and clarity and renamed the Wittelsbach-Graff. It now weighs 31.06 carat and has a color grade of Fancy Deep blue with Internally Flawless clarity.
It has historical value as it was once part of the Austrian and the Bavarian Crown jewels.
Discovered in the Kollur mine in the Golconda District of India, it is widely said that it was part of the Infanta Margarita Teresa of Spain's dowry for her marriage to Leopold I of Austria in 1667.
Her portrait is seen in the background here. Whether or not this is true, this diamond was part of Maria Amalia's dowry when she married Karl of Bavaria, and this diamond was mounted in the Bavarian crown for many years.
Its blue color and red phosphorescence have often earned it a comparison to the famed Hope diamond.
