Stephanie Williams, the Special Adviser to the UN’s Secretary-General on Libya stressed on Wednesday, that elections are the only path to achieve peace in the country.
"I met today with HNEC Chairman, Dr. Emad Al-Sayeh, and board member, Mr. Abdul Hakim Al-Shaab. We discussed ways to consolidate and strengthen efforts to keep the electoral process moving forward," Williams tweeted.
"I reiterated the full support of the United Nations and the international community to the HNEC as an independent institution in charge of the electoral process," she added.
"The holding of inclusive, free, fair, and credible national elections in Libya is the only possible response to the overwhelming and consistent demand of the Libyan people and the only path to peace and stability in Libya," the UN official affirmed.
