The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) decided to suspend its sessions, which are held in Tobruk, in the eastern part of the country, headed by the President-designate Fawzi Al-Nuiri and attended by 120 deputies until today, Tuesday.

The council continues its discussions on the electoral process in Libya, and the reasons for the failure to hold the presidential and parliamentary elections on their scheduled dates, according to the map of the Political Dialogue Forum in Geneva on December 24.

The Libyan News Agency stated that the Council held a closed session yesterday, during which security and intelligence reports on the electoral process were presented.

The reports, which were described as sensitive because of their relationship to national security, were submitted by the General Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Interior, and its affiliated agencies.

In a public evening session, the report of the High National Elections Commission was reviewed and the reasons for the failure of the electoral process were discussed.

In a related context, the Libyan High National Elections Commission revealed that the reason for not publishing the final list of presidential candidates is that the stage of judicial appeals cannot be built upon in the commission’s announcement of the final list of candidates.

The current list contains the names of people who are not legally qualified to be on the list of candidates for direct election to the first head of the Libyan state since its independence.

In a report addressed to the head and members of the Committee for Monitoring the Electoral Process in the Libyan House of Representatives, the commission explained that it found that the provisions of appeals issued by the judiciary did not comply with the provisions and content of the law.
