Williams Calls on Libyans to Seize Chance, Settle Disputes

Today, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Stephanie Williams praised the courage of the Libyan Leaders in settling the dispute in the country.

In an interview with the UN News, Williams touched on the ceasefire agreement, the launching of the Libyan Political Forum, the upcoming elections, the role of women, oil and foreign interference, among other.

Williams honored the two delegations of the Libyan Joint Military Committee (5+5), which signed the agreement between the Government of National Accord and the General Command of the National Army.

The Envoy highlighted the role of the women that participated in the forum, noting the importance of them in building and making peace.

"They deserve their weight in gold when they join the negotiating table," she said.

She continued that "Men started to appreciate the women's rule. There was a big difference between their positions at the beginning and the end of the meeting, and their recognition that women can be very beneficial in making peace."

Also, she referred to the Libyan oil and its impact on the country's economy, pointing out that her recent meeting with the Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Processing Company which included the head of the National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanallah.

She denounced foreign interference in the country, intensifying the importance of respecting the arms prohibition.
