The 2024 movie musical “Mean Girls”, adapted from the 2018 Tony-nominated musical based on the 2004 feature, will be available to stream on Paramount+ beginning March 5, following its January theatrical release.

The latest rendition of the high school comedy surpassed $100 million at the global box office after six weeks of release. It held the top spot at the domestic box office for three consecutive weeks following its January 12 release.

“Mean Girls” was originally slated to debut directly on Paramount+, however, executives opted for a theatrical release after enthusiastic test screenings.

Reneé Rapp plays the infamous Regina George, reprising her role on Broadway. Joining the cast are Auli’i Cravalho (“Moana”), Angourie Rice (“Mare of Easttown”), Christopher Briney (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”), and Jaquel Spivey (“A Strange Loop”).

Rice portrays Cady Heron, the new girl at school who is taken in by Janis and Damian, played by Cravalho and Spivey, respectively.

Janis and Damian instruct Cady to infiltrate the school’s queen bees, known as the Plastics. Cady starts to fall for Regina’s boyfriend Aaron Samuels, played by Briney, and soon finds herself more and more entrenched in the lives of the most popular girls in school.

Tina Fey and Tim Meadows, who starred in the 2004 comedy, will return for this adaptation, joined by Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Avantika, Mahi Alam, Bebe Wood, Ashley Park, Connor Ratliff, and Jon Hamm.

Fey, who wrote both the 2004 movie and the stage musical, returned as screenwriter and producer for this rendition. Lorna Mitchells also produced with Fey. Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne directed. The music is by Jeff Richmond with lyrics from Nell Benjamin.
