Mostafa Waziry, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) at the Tourism Ministry, penned an agreement to restore and construct a wall around the ancient Monastery of Saint Mina in Assiut.
The head of the Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II witnessed the signing of the deal.
Waziry highlighted that the project will include the implementation of some restoration works in the monastery and the construction of a wall around the monastery.
He added that this comes within the framework of the ministry’s interest to pay attention to archaeological buildings of various historical eras throughout the Arab Republic.
Meanwhile, the implementation of this project came after the approval of the Standing Committee for Islamic, Coptic, and Jewish Antiquities.
The Secretary-General of the SCA underlined that the work is scheduled to commence during the next few years. He added that the production unit completed the necessary studies and technical measurements needed for the project.
The official pointed out that the work will be carried out under the full supervision of the archaeological area and the projects sector of the SCA.
