Henry Cavill has offered an update on his “Warhammer 40,000” TV show.

He noted that the project is in “a fantastic place to start our Universe.”

It was announced in December 2022 that the former Superman actor would star in and executive produce an adaptation of the tabletop game for Amazon Prime Video, which acquired the global rights to the IP from Games Workshop.

“To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years ago….the Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!” Cavill wrote on Instagram alongside a black-and-white selfie. “My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world.”

Cavill added, “Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though — more to come in time!”.

Set in the far future, “Warhammer 40,000” sees humanity “at the edge of what might be its brightest future, or its darkest age.” Mankind is threatened by “traitors driven by the fires of ambition, alien empires sworn to reclaim the stars and the corruption of reality by malevolent gods,” according to the studio.

Cavill’s post is an indication that the series is moving forward after Amazon and Games Workshop had set a December 2024 deadline for both companies to agree on “creative guidelines” for the franchise, for it otherwise would have been scrapped.

The same day as Cavill’s Instagram post, Games Workshop posted on its investor relations site that it has “reached a final agreement with Amazon” for the adaptation of the “Warhammer 40,000” universe “into films and television series, together with associated merchandising rights.”

“Production processes in respect of films and television series may take a number of years,” reads the site.

In a statement announcing the project in 2022, Cavill said he has loved “Warhammer” since he was a child. “The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and the responsibility,” he said in a statement.
