Hany Shaker has died following a prolonged battle with illness, according to reports on Thursday. The acclaimed Egyptian artist passed away in Paris, France, where he had been receiving treatment in recent months.

Born in Cairo, Shaker was discovered in 1972 by the late composer Mohamed El Mogy, who introduced him to Egyptian radio with the song “Ehky Ya Donya,” marking the beginning of a long and influential musical career.

Throughout his decades-spanning journey, Shaker released 29 albums and performed more than 600 songs, becoming one of the most prominent voices in Arabic music. His most notable works include “El Youm Gameel,” “Koun Fayakoun,” and “Esm Ala El Waraq,” among many others that shaped his artistic legacy.

In addition to his music career, Shaker appeared in films such as “When Love Sings” and “This I Love, This I Want,” and took part in theatrical productions. He also served as head of Egypt’s Musicians’ Syndicate in 2015, where he played a key role in regulating and supporting the music industry.

Shaker received several awards and honors during his lifetime, including the Order of Merit from Tunisia and the Jerusalem Medal awarded by late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, reflecting his cultural influence across the Arab world.

Funeral and memorial arrangements are expected to be announced later by his family.
