The movie marks the first time a Netflix movie has opened the festival. It also marks Baumbach’s return to the Lido after he premiered Marriage Story at the festival in 2019.

The 79th Venice Film Festival runs from August 31-September 10.

It is organised by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera. The festival aims to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment, and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue.
