British actress Vanessa Kirby is in talks to play Napoleon Bonaparte's first wife, Empress Josephine, in the historical movie "Kitbag".
Kirby will replace Jodie Comer, who exited the project due to scheduling issues with her first West End stage production, Prima Facie.
The biopic for Apple is scripted by David Scarpa and directed by Ridley Scott. The movie centers on the rise of Napoleon (Played by Joaquin Phoenix), on the battlefield and in politics while focusing on his volatile relationship with the Empress.
"Kitbag" is slated to begin production this spring which will be produced by Scott and Kevin Walsh for Scott Free.
On the other hand, Kirby is set to star alongside Anthony Hopkins, Hugh Jackman, and Laura Dern in Florian Zeller’s "The Son", the follow-up to his Oscar-winning debut feature, "The Father".
The actress will also star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the survival thriller "Suddenly" as well as reprise her role as The White Widow in the seventh and eighth installments of the Mission Impossible franchise.
Kirby earned her first Oscar nomination just this year for her role in the Kornél Mundruczó Netflix movie "Pieces of a Woman", starring Shia LaBeouf and Ellen Burstyn.
She portrayed Martha, a Boston woman struggling to endure the loss of a child.
