On 8th of March, American Chargé d’Affaires Nicole Shampaine announced that her country, through USAID/Egypt, will provide $200,000 (EGP 3.1 million) to support up to 26 Egyptian talented and outstanding high school students from across the country to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the USA in May.

Chargé Shampaine took the International Women's Day occasion to announce the funding during a visit to Maadi Girls STEM School with USAID Mission Director Leslie Reed and Deputy Mission Director Margaret Sancho.

Meanwhile, the students presented a number of capstone projects ranging from petroleum leakage detection to water desalination.

According to the U.S. embassy in Cairo, these students are developing the ideas and innovations that will address some of the most pressing global issues of our time. "We're excited to support young Egyptian scientists and scholars and can't wait to see what these talented young women do next!"

This year's fair will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, between May 7 and 13. ISEF will be held as a hybrid event with a judged competition and distribution of Grand and Special awards for in-person and virtual finalists.
