USAID to Establish Professional Development Center at Cairo Univ.

On Monday, Cairo University President Mohamed Othman El-Khosht met with the director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Leslie Reid, alongside a high-ranking American delegation to discuss the establishment of a professional development center at the university.

The new project aims at providing students with professional skills, vocational guidance, and counseling services, preparing them for the labor market as well as linking them to appropriate job opportunities, according to USAID.

During their meeting, El-Khosht and Reid reviewed a number of topics, like the Scientific Excellence Center at the Faculty of Agriculture and ways to develop it in a way that contributes to the development of the agricultural research sector.

Besides, the Center for Services and Support for People with Disabilities, which aims to integrate students with special abilities into the university community.

Furthermore, USAID's representative and El-Khosht discussed the best ways to enhance their joint cooperation in the field of sustainable environmental approaches.

"We are looking forward to organizing a simulation model for Cairo University students at the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at the end of this year," said Cairo University President.

Moreover, El-Khosht indicated that Cairo University's education system will definitely benefit greatly from this collaboration with USAID.

Meanwhile, Reid said: "USAID is cooperating with the Egyptian government in the educational, research, and health sectors, and supporting universities, research, scientific and service centers in joint research projects."

"We have been providing them with the necessary resources and the required training in the fields of skills enhancement for students, development and professional orientation in the field of higher education and research," she added.

She also praised the role of Cairo University in the fields of scientific research, spreading rational and critical thinking, enhancing students’ skills and ways to prepare and train them for the future.
