U.S Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Robert Silverman announced that the United States is providing more than twenty-four million dollars to the World Food Program to assist Sudanese refugees in Egypt.
In response to the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, the United States continues to support WFP’s efforts in Sudan to deliver life-saving food and nutrition assistance to those affected by the conflict. Our support for the humanitarian response in Sudan comes, in large part, through U.S. contributions to the Sudan Humanitarian Fund managed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Standing alongside Rawad Halabi, WFP Country Director and Representative in Egypt, CDA Silverman said, “The United States is committed to ending the conflict in Sudan. President Trump’s Senior Advisor for African and Arab Affairs Massad Boulos is working with Egypt and the other Quad members to pursue a negotiated settlement starting with a humanitarian truce. Today’s announcement furthers this U.S. commitment, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Egypt to provide lifesaving assistance to those displaced by the war in Sudan.”
