On Tuesday, US Special Envoy and Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland visited Egypt to promote support for a Libyan-led political solution, facilitated by the UN, and for the Libyan people as they seek lasting peace, security, and prosperity, according to a statement by the American embassy in Libya.

On his first trip to Egypt since becoming the US Special Envoy, Ambassador Norland noted, "We are grateful for the role Egypt has played this past year in advancing the political process, and we appreciate the partnership we have developed in this respect."

"The United States and Egypt have a shared interest in supporting a political, not military solution in Libya, in the interests of regional stability, security and economic growth," he added.

"The vision of Libyans is what matters the most. ... The United States will continue to support Libyans as they seek to implement their vision through elections, the departure of foreign forces and fighters, and delivery of essential services."
