The US expressed its grief over the tragic death of a Moroccan child, Ryan, last Saturday after he fell into a well in northern Morocco.
In a statement, Department of State Spokesman Ned Price described the attempts to rescue 5-year-old Ryan as heroic.
"Like millions around the world, we were awed by the dedication of the rescue team and the solidarity of the Moroccan people as they held out hope for Rayan’s survival," the statement read.
Moreover, the spokesman offered his deepest condolences to Rayan’s family and all Moroccans.
It is noteworthy that the Moroccan authorities reported, on Saturday evening, the death of Rayan, who had been stuck in the well for about 5 days. The authorities managed to bring him out of the well and rushed him to the hospital, yet, hours later, he was confirmed dead.
The incident shocked the world as millions of social media users, presidents, and officials sympathized with it.
A statement from the Moroccan Royal Court stated, “Following the tragic accident that claimed the life of the child Rayan Oram, His Majesty King Mohammed VI had a telephone conversation with Mr. Khaled Oram and Mrs. Wassima Kherchich, the parents of the deceased.”
