The United States looks forward to becoming a key partner in Egypt’s efforts to build its digital economy, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman said, highlighting Egypt’s strategic location, young population and commitment to digital transformation as factors that make it one of the world’s promising digital economies.

Speaking at the opening of the U.S. Innovation and Artificial Intelligence Forum in Cairo, Silverman said Egypt has made a strategic decision to invest in its digital future, emphasizing the country’s growing role in global digital infrastructure.

He noted that nearly 80% of internet traffic between Europe and Asia passes through data cables located in the Suez Canal region, while about one-fifth of global maritime trade moves through the canal, making Egypt a key player in digital infrastructure not only regionally but also globally.
