The United States announced that the American forces that will leave Somalia will go to other American bases in East Africa instead of leaving the continent.
Army Gen. Stephen Townsend, head of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), said in a statement today, Tuesday, “the United States is not withdrawing from the East African region, as we remain committed to helping our African partners to build a more secure future.”
Earlier this Month, outgoing US President Donald Trump instructed the Pentagon to withdraw nearly all the US troops stationed in Somalia in 2021.
US forces have been in that country for more than a decade to help in confronting Al-Shabaab militant group, and ISIS in the region.
