Sony Pictures has finally unveiled a first look at the long-awaited adaptation of the survival horror video game "Until Dawn".

The upcoming horror movie is a live-action spinoff of the 2015 video game of the same name.

In the footage, Until Dawn director David F. Sandberg and writer Gary Dauberman discuss how the movie will stay true to the original game — which featured a butterfly effect system in which players must make choices that may change the story, including which characters survive or die — while giving the audience a new experience.

"One of the creative things the game did is that people make different choices and die in different ways," Sandberg explained, meaning that players could revisit Until Dawn multiple times and get a different outcome every single time. This butterfly effect system has been loosely adapted for the movie, with Sandberg revealing that there is "this mechanic where things start over and [the characters] get to try again," similar to how an experienced player will know which choices to make in the game to prevent certain deaths.

Similar to Prime Video's Fallout series,  Until Dawn movie will be an expansion of the original game instead of a straightforward remake, existing alongside the game in the same universe.

Despite the video game boasting an all-star cast (Rami Malek, Brett Dalton, Jordan Fisher, and Hayden Panettiere, among others) that could have easily reprised their roles, Sony opted to tell a new standalone story with a new set of characters.

Peter Stormare, who played Doctor Hill in the original game, is the only actor who is returning for the Until Dawn movie, although he is confirmed to be playing a different character in the movie.

In the first look video, Stormare shared that he was "very proud to be part of this evolution onto a screen."

Besides Stormare, the cast for Until Dawn includes Ella Rubin (Gossip Girl) as Clover, Michael Cimino (Love, Victor) as Max, Ji-young Yoo (Expats) as Megan, Odessa A'zion (Hellraiser) as Nina, Maia Mitchell (The Fosters) as Melanie, and Belmont Cameli (Saved by the Bell) as Abel.

"One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again - only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn," reads the official synopsis for Until Dawn.

"Until Dawn" hits theaters on April 25.
