CAIRO, Apr. 2 (SEE)- Earlier today, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his accompanying delegation paid a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
During his tour, Guterres was briefed on the features of the Bavarian complex. He walked through the Restoration Center, heavy-duty laboratories and the wood lab, where King Tutankhamun's collectibles are retained.
Guterres also stopped by King Ramses II’s statue and the Grand Stairs.

The UN Chief signed GEM’s guestbook. After that, he expressed his appreciation for the effort exerted in refurbishing the treasures, praising Egypt's keenness to preserve the heritage.
Guterres was received by Major General Atef Miftah, the General Supervisor of GEM, and Ambassador Majid Nafie, Director General of International Relations of the Ministry of Antiquities.
Upon openening, GEM is forecast to reinforce Egypt’s tourism sector, which makes up 11% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
