The official poster for El Adl Group Studios' upcoming musical play "Umm Kulthum: Dāybeen Fi Sout El Set" — the company’s debut production and the largest musical ever staged about the legendary ‘Star of the East,’ has been revealed.
The poster features a painted portrait of Umm Kulthum’s upper half, depicted in her iconic concert attire. Beneath the image, the title "Umm Kulthum: Dāybeen Fi Sout El Set" appears in elegant gold lettering.
Dr. Medhat El Adl, the show’s writer and lyricist, commented, “The importance of the play is that it reveals secrets about Umm Kulthum, her songs, and the love stories in her life.’’ He added, “This is the first musical about Umm Kulthum that matches the caliber of Broadway productions. When we speak of Umm Kulthum, we speak of the stage — and when the stage belongs to a singer, it must be a musical. I believe this is the most fitting format to present her story, and musical theater allows for all the elements of spectacle, which are fully embraced in this production.”
The play traces key moments in Umm Kulthum’s life — from her early days in a small village in Egypt’s Daqahliya to her rise in Cairo and transformation into one of the most celebrated voices in Egypt, the Arab World, and beyond.
Written and lyrically crafted by Medhat El Adl and directed by Ahmed Fouad, the play features music and composition by Khaled El Kammar and Ehab Abdel Wahed, with Esraa Taher serving as executive producer, Aya El Adl as Chief Commercial Officer, Mohamed Adel as artistic producer, Mahmoud Sabry as set designer, Reem El Adl as costume designer, and vocal coaches Prof. Dr. Jehan El Nasser and Prof. Dr. Eman Hosny, along with lighting design by Yasser Shaalan and choreography by Amr Patrick.
Produced by El Adl Group Studios (Medhat El Adl), "Umm Kulthum: Dāybeen Fi Sout El Set" is set to premiere this October at Al Masrah Theater, located in the Mövenpick Hotel at Media Production City, Sixth of October City.
