Uma Thurman and Henry Golding had recently joined the cast of Netflix's highly-anticipated sequel “The Old Guard”.
The sequel is set to be directed by Victoria Mahoney from a script by Greg Rucka, who co-created the 2017 graphic novel on which the franchise is based, alongside Leandro Fernández.
“The Old Guard” became one of Netflix’s biggest hits upon its release in 2020. The success of the first movie immediately pushed all parties involved to begin discussing the possibility of a sequel.
The blockbuster was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and featured Theron as Andy, a nearly immortal mercenary who helps protect humanity.
The sequel also witnesses the return of Theron, along with the movie’s other main stars such as Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Veronica Ngo.
Prince-Bythewood stepped back from directing the project due to other commitments, however, she will continue to serve as a producer.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are also producing the sequel for Skydance. Theron, Beth Kono, and AJ Dix producing for Denver and Delilah Productions, while Marc Evans is producing for Marc Evans Productions.
Mahoney is best known for helming episodes of “The Morning Show” and “Grey’s Anatomy”, as well as serving as second-unit director on “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
