Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned on Sunday after President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new government reshuffle, saying he had offered her a "new and important" role, according to the Associated Press.

Svyrydenko, who previously served as economy minister, became prime minister in July 2025 at the age of 39 after playing a key role in securing the US-Ukraine minerals agreement.

In a social media statement, she said she was proud to have led the government during one of the country's most difficult periods and remained ready to serve Ukraine in any capacity.

Zelensky said Ukraine was changing its political strategy and indicated that Svyrydenko would take responsibility for an important area involving relations with one of Kyiv's key international partners. He also said the reshuffle would include senior law enforcement officials.

The overhaul marks the fourth major government restructuring since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Zelensky has remained in office under martial law, as Ukraine's constitution prohibits elections during wartime.

Separately, Russian officials said a Ukrainian attack in the Samara region killed one person and injured three others, including a child. Russian media reported that the strike targeted the Syzran oil refinery, owned by Rosneft, while local authorities also reported damage to an empty tanker in the Azov-Black Sea shipping canal following a separate drone attack.

Ukraine's long-range strikes on Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure have contributed to fuel shortages in parts of Russia. Moscow has responded by intensifying missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
