"Twisted Metal" Renewed for Season 2

Peacock has ordered a second season of Twisted Metal, its action-comedy series based on the PlayStation video game. 

Star and executive producer Anthony Mackie announced the renewal at Thursday night’s Game Awards ceremony.

“I have to give a Sweet Tooth-sized thank you to our incredible fans — I read every comment and was so blown away by everyone’s love, support, and rabid enthusiasm for a paper bag,” showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith said in a statement. 

“We are beyond thankful we get to continue the story of John Doe, Quiet, and Sweet Tooth as they face off against familiar faces and new grim foes in the long-awaited Twisted Metal tournament. The mixtape is made, and I’m thrilled to get back on the road with our stellar cast and crew.”

"Twisted Metal" is set 20 years after a disaster that has divided the U.S. into a handful of cities run under martial law and the anarchic “outside” lands. Mackie plays John Doe, a driver hired to pick up and deliver a package to New San Francisco. Mayhem ensues throughout his trip.

The series debuted in July and made Nielsen’s top 10 streaming original series the week after its premiere. Peacock says Twisted Metal ranks among its top three original series to date.

Along with Mackie, the season one cast includes Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa and Will Arnett — who provide the body and voice for the villainous Sweet Tooth — and Thomas Haden Church. 

Neve Campbell, Richard Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughans, Lou Beatty Jr., Chloe Fineman and Jason Mantzoukas had guest roles.

Smith executive produces with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick; Arnett and Marc Forman of Electric Avenue; Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment; Peter Principato of Artists First; Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions; and Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios.
