"Twilight" is getting the TV treatment.

The series based on the best-selling books by Stephanie Meyer is in early development at Lionsgate Television. Meyer is expected to be involved.

Sinead Daly, whose credits include Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Raised by Wolves, is attached to write the script for Twilight. Sources say Daly is working with Lionsgate TV to determine what the specific take on Twilight will be and if it will be a remake of Meyer’s books or a different offshoot.

Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig, who during his tenure at Summit Entertainment bought the rights to the Twilight book series after Paramount Pictures passed, are both attached to exec produce the television take. Godfrey’s Temple Hill banner produced all five of the movies that Feig’s Summit distributed.

Twilight is a major component of Lionsgate’s IP. The movies, which ended in 2012 with Breaking Dawn: Part 2, grossed more than $3.4B globally and launched the careers of its stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner.

Lionsgate also owns The Hunger Games franchise, which it is continuing to expand this year with the release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in November.

The news of a Twilight series comes as another global phenomenon is being revived into a TV series over at Max. Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced a decade-long series version of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series with the author attached as an executive producer.  There will be a new cast and this series is billed as being a “faithful adaptation” of the books.

Genre programming continues to remain in high demand as Amazon last year launched a new take on "The Lord of the Rings", with Warner Bros. Discovery also planning on making new installments of movies based on the J.R.R. Tolkien works.
