From 28 to 31 October 2025, the Thokoza Film Festival will take place in the South African city of Thokoza, Gauteng Province, bringing together independent filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts, TV BRICS reported. The event will feature special screenings of films by directors from BRICS+ countries, provided by TV BRICS – a partner of the festival.

The special screening programme on 28 October will open with the film " Uralian Anomaly" (2025, Russia), produced by TV BRICS (film author – Ksenia Komissarova, director – Andrey Porshnyak, cinematographer – Dmitry Golovko). The film, shot in the Sverdlovsk Region, tells the story of the geologist’s profession, gold mining technologies, and the study of the Ural subsoil.

Viewers will also have the opportunity to see "Whispers of the Wild Mandgadde Nataraj" (2025, India, director – Shreys R. H.), "Discovering Ofala: Umudioka" (2023, Nigeria, director – Tochukwu Nwaiwu), "Caribbean Festival. Festival of Fire" (2024, Cuba, director – Enrique Perez Fumero), "My sister Clara" (2022, Brazil, director – Diego Alexandre), and "Art Life" (2024, China, director – Chen Yan).

“This film festival provides a unique opportunity to present to South African audiences not only the latest TV BRICS production, "Uralian Anomaly", but also films from our partner media in BRICS+ countries. The audience will see the ancient Igwe chieftain coronation ceremony in Nigeria, a grand music and theatre celebration in Cuba, a dream-fulfilling story from Brazil, the natural beauty of India, and the transformative power of art through the eyes of Chinese filmmakers,” said Andrey Porshnyak.

The Thokoza Film Festival has been held regularly since 2022. It serves as a platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their work, exchange experience, and build professional connections. The event will also include workshops and panel discussions.

Partner screenings are part of the TV BRICS mission to promote cultural dialogue and strengthen humanitarian ties between BRICS countries and the Global South. The media network regularly introduces its audience to works by filmmakers from BRICS+ nations. For instance, during the 18th International Film Festival "Salt of the Earth", TV BRICS held special screenings featuring Ofala Festival, the Brazilian film "Mergulho" (2020, Brazil, director – Kellen Casara) about the lives of Paralympic athletes, and the joint Russian-Iranian film "Written Heritage" (2024, director – Emir Valinezhad), dedicated to Muslim manuscripts and the history of science and art.
