On Monday, a White House official said that Dr. Scott Atlas has resigned from his position as special adviser to US President Donald Trump, after four controversial months during which he repeatedly clashed with other members of the Coronavirus taskforce, according to Sputnik news agency.

“I am writing to resign from my position as Special Advisor to the President of the United States,” Atlas said in a letter to Trump.

Then, Atlas confirmed his resignation in a tweet saying, "Honored to have served Trump and the American people during these difficult times."

Atlas has come under fire from public health experts, including Anthony Fauci, a leading infectious disease expert in the US, for providing Trump with misleading or incorrect information about the Coronavirus pandemic.

Atlas repeatedly downplayed the threat of the virus, which has killed more than 265,000 Americans.

It is worth mentioning that, as of Monday evening, the US had recorded 13,522,247 coronavirus cases and 267,844 deaths, both by far the worst tolls in the world.
