US President Donald Trump announced that he will deliver an address to the American people on Thursday evening, a move that comes amid escalating tensions and clashes with Iran.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday, Trump stated: "President Trump will deliver an address to the nation on Thursday evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (01:00 GMT Friday)," adding, "Thank you for your attention to this matter."
Earlier on Monday, Trump had announced the re-imposition of a naval blockade on Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the United States would take on the role of "guardian" of the strait. This followed new reports of retaliatory strikes exchanged between the United States and Iran on Sunday.
"All other nations will have fair and open use of the Strait of Hormuz," Trump said in his remarks, adding that the United States would be known as the "Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz."
