US President Donald Trump said he will ask the Supreme Court to reconsider its recent ruling rejecting his executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship, despite such requests rarely being granted.
Trump criticized last week's decision, in which the court reaffirmed that the US Constitution guarantees citizenship to all children born on American soil. He said he would seek an immediate review of the ruling, arguing that the decision would harm the country.
Under Supreme Court rules, parties may request the justices to reconsider a final judgment, although the court rarely agrees to rehear cases after issuing a decision.
Following the ruling, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Trump administration would intensify its crackdown on so-called "birth tourism", adding that authorities would pursue measures targeting foreign women traveling to the US to give birth.
