Under the auspices of the Tourism Ministry, TriFactory Company organized the first edition of the Saqqara Race in accordance with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian General Authority.
Around 1,000 competitors from 30 countries are participating in a 5km-distance race. In addition, 50 children are participating in a race of 1 km distance.
On her part, Maha Eid, Director General of Tourism Awareness at the SCTA, stated that the “Saqqara Race” characterized by paved roads were completely allocated to the participants during the race in line with international standards.
The MyLaps timing system, the same technology used in the Olympic Games, will be applied during the race to calculate the duration of runs and the order of the runners, which could put the race on the international running calendar of the future.
In the same vein, Sabri Farag, Director General of the Saqqara Antiquities Zone, indicated that the race started at 8 o’clock Friday morning, from the Step Pyramid (Pyramid of Djoser), then Pyramid of Teti, till the Step Pyramid’s parking lot.
