As part of his official visit to the Spanish capital for the FITUR 2026 international tourism trade fair, Mr. Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held a high-level meeting with Ms. Sheikha Al-Nowais, Secretary-General of UN Tourism.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Ihab Badawi, Egypt’s Ambassador to Spain, and Dr. Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion.
Enhancing Cooperation and Digital Transformation
The discussions focused on strengthening the partnership between the Ministry and UN Tourism to support Egypt’s tourism industry in alignment with international benchmarks. Key highlights included:
Advanced Statistics: Developing a robust system for tourism statistics using cutting-edge technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Data Accuracy: Automating data collection and analysis regarding hotel capacities, travel agencies, and tourist demographics to ensure real-time updates.
Knowledge Sharing: Emphasizing the exchange of data among member states to support informed decision-making and global sustainable development.
Capacity Building: Expanding cooperation in professional training and skill development for tourism sector employees to meet global best practices.
Showcasing Egypt’s Heritage
Following the talks, Minister Fathy accompanied Ms. Al-Nowais on a tour of the Archaeological Replicas Museum showcased at the Egyptian pavilion.
The Secretary-General expressed her admiration for the replicas, noting how they brilliantly reflect the richness of Egyptian civilization and serve as an innovative tool for promoting Egypt's cultural tourism to a global audience at FITUR.
