Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities met, on Tuesday, with Khairat Lama Sharif, Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Cairo, at his office in the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The meeting aimed to enhance tourism and antiquities relations between Egypt and Kazakhstan, particularly in light of the long-standing historical ties between the two countries.
This meeting comes as part of the minister’s regular efforts to boost cooperation and activate partnerships with development partners, opening broader avenues for further collaboration.
During the meeting, discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in tourism and antiquities, supporting projects for the restoration of Mamluk antiquities in Egypt, and benefiting from Egypt’s expertise in hospitality training and tourism development. This includes the development of the Caspian Sea region to become a tourist destination with numerous services and hotels similar to New Alamein City.
Additionally, the training of young Kazakh archaeologists in restoration and excavations was discussed, enabling them to discover their country's antiquities.
The meeting also explored the possibility of organizing temporary exhibitions of Egyptian antiquities in Kazakhstan to introduce the Kazakh people to Egypt’s rich ancient civilization and promote Egypt as a tourist destination, particularly for cultural tourism.
Moreover, discussions included the potential signing of Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries in tourism and antiquities in the near future, which would contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation in these fields.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations and Supervisor of the International Relations and Agreements Department, and Mr. Talgat Ilyas, First Secretary at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Cairo.
