Tourism Minister, Italian Ambassador to Cairo Discuss Cooperation

Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, met with Italian Ambassador Michele Quaroni at the Ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and Italy in the areas of tourism and antiquities, and also prepared for the upcoming visit of the Italian Minister of Culture and Antiquities to Egypt.

Minister Fathi welcomed Ambassador Quaroni, emphasizing Egypt's pride in its historical relations with Italy and its commitment to strengthening them to support the common interests of both countries. He also expressed his hope for the visit of Mr. Gennaro Sangiuliano, the Italian Minister of Culture and Antiquities, to Cairo in the near future.

Ambassador Quaroni, on the other hand, expressed the Italian Minister of Culture and Antiquities' aspiration to visit Egypt to further strengthen cooperation, especially in the fields of tourism and antiquities. He praised the efforts of the Egyptian government to advance the tourism and antiquities sector.

The meeting also discussed the progress in implementing cooperation frameworks in the antiquities and museums sector, as well as ways to promote tourism in Egypt to increase tourist traffic from Italy.

Future cooperation mechanisms were also discussed, including holding temporary archaeological exhibitions in Italy, cooperation in digital transformation in museums, benefiting from the Italian experience to improve display methods in museums, and enhancing tourism services, restoration work, and training for museum curators and workers in the hospitality sector.

The meeting was attended by Amb. Khaled Tharwat, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations and General Supervisor of the General Administration of International Relations and Agreements at the Ministry, Professor Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Davide Scalmani, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, Dr. Gianluigi Mastandrea Bonaviri, First Secretary for Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of Italy in Cairo, and Professor Giuseppe Cecere, Director of the Italian Center for Antiquities in Cairo.
