Tourism Minister Inspects Latest Developments in GEM

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa visited the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on Sunday to inspect the latest developments in its construction.

During his inspection tour, the minister was accompained by Atef Moftah, General Supervisor of the GEM Project, Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Ahmed Obaid, Assistant Minister for the Affairs of Minister's Office, Dr. Al-Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs at GEM, and Dr. Hussein Kamal, Director General of the Restoration Center.

The Minister began his tour by inspecting the museum's glass foyer, where he saw the statue of King Ramesses II at the entrance. He listened to a detailed explanation from Dr. Mustafa Waziri about the history of the statue, the story of its discovery, the process of its restoration, cleaning, and transportation from the San al-Hajar area in Sharqiya.

The tour also included an inspection of the inner foyer, the great staircase and the main exhibition halls, in which 95% of the work has been completed.

On his part, Dr. Abbas reviewed the scenario for these halls, which revolves around three main topics: society, property and the other world, starting from prehistoric times until the Greco-Roman era.

The Minister concluded his tour by visiting the Museum of King Khufu's Boats, where he listened to a detailed explanation about the latest developments in the museum's work.

Moreover, he was keen to meet a number of museum workers, and talk to them, praising the great role they play in the completion of this project and the great cultural edifice.
