Emmy and Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones has joined the cast of “The Lowdown” Season 2.
Jones will star opposite Ethan Hawke in the Western-noir from “Reservation Dogs” creator Sterlin Harjo.
The season, which also stars series newcomer Betty Gilpin, begins production this spring in Tulsa, Okla.
The show follows citizen journalist and self-proclaimed “truthstorian” Lee Raybon, whose exposé about the powerful Washberg family flings him into the center of a local conspiracy. When the publication of his article is followed by the suspicious suicide of Dale Washberg, Lee follows a trail of breadcrumbs to find out the truth.
“The Lowdown” Season 1 starred Keith David and featured guest stars Kyle MacLachlan, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Kaniehtiio Horn, Tracy Letts, Peter Dinklage and Graham Greene.
The series is executive produced by Harjo, Garrett Basch, Hawke, Ryan Hawke, Duffy Boudreau and Scott Teems. It’s produced by FX Productions with all episodes currently available to stream on Hulu.
Jones is mainly a big-screen star, though he has had notable TV roles. His second small-screen role was in the long-running soap "One Life to Live," which he followed with credits on Barnaby Jones, Baretta and Charlie’s Angels. In 1983, he won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for his portrayal of Gary Gilmore in "The Executioner’s Song," and in 1989, he was nominated for an Emmy for Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Special for "Lonesome Dove".
He last appeared on TV in HBO telefilm "The Sunset Limited," working opposite Sam Jackson in 2011. Jones also directed the movie. In a series, he last starred in "Lonesome Dove" 37 years ago.
On the film side, Jones is an Oscar winning actor for playing U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard in the 1993 film “The Fugitive.” He also received Academy Award nominations for his portrayal of Clay Shaw in Oliver Stone’s “JFK,” as well as “Lincoln” and “In the Valley of Elah.”
He made his feature film debut in “Love Story” and is also revered for his role in the Coen brothers’ “No Country for Old Men.” Jones’ credits also include “Batman Forever,” “Rules of Engagement,” the “Men in Black” movies, “Ad Astra,” “Jason Bourne” and the recent courtroom drama “The Burial” alongside Jamie Foxx.
